Abstract


            This research aims 1) to compare the students’ English reading ability before and after being taught using authentic materials and 2) to study the students’ satisfaction towards teaching English reading skills using authentic materials. The participants in this study consisted of 40 students in Matthayomsuksa 5 at Sawat Rattanaphimuk School in the second semester of the academic year 2016. The instruments used in gathering data were 10-week authentic materials lesson plans, an English reading ability test and a satisfaction questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed through the statistical procedure of means, standard deviation and t-test for dependent samples.

          The findings revealed that

1. The English reading ability of Matthayomsuksa 5 students was significantly improved at the level of .01 (t= 17.99) after taking the English reading ability test.

 2. The students’ satisfaction towards teaching English reading skills using authentic materials was at a good level. ( = 4.27)
