Abstract

This research aims to study the history and background of the royal bathing ceremony (Pee Tee Loung Song). The royal bathing dance is specific concerning
composition, acting, patterns of the royal bathing dance and dance patterns. This is based on Thai theatrical dance culture including the royal bathing dance of other characters in Thai literature and Thai performing arts. It also aims to create the pattern of solo dance displaying the great talent of the royal Pralaw character. The study includes data collected from textbooks, documents, interviewing experts, Thai performing arts specialists, musicians, vocalists, and focus groups. The research found that this new performance of the Pralaw
royal bathing, defines specific rituals and their meaning as influenced by Hinduism. This new interpretation has never before been performed by the College of Dramatic Arts. The dance addresses the process of King Pralaw preparing himself to lead his troops while wearing the elaborate dress required at it completion. It demonstrates the formal step by step process of his dressing and arming. The creation of his new costume, hair garment and ornamentation are based on a poem written by H.R.H. Krom Pra Narathip Prapanpong and displays the changes made to the traditional costume of King Pralaw, as performed in the past by the Department of Fine Arts. The new performance is presented by three characters portraying King Pralaw and two ladies-in-waiting.
