Qiming Zhao

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of business model innovation (BMI) on the competitive positioning and operational performance of platform-based enterprises, using Grab Thailand as a case study. Additionally, it provides strategic recommendations for platforms entering emerging markets. A quantitative survey of 400 consumers and service providers was analyzed using multiple regression. Results demonstrate that BMI significantly enhances both consumer (β=0.270) and provider outcomes (β=0.232), with network effects further amplifying these benefits and strengthening competitive advantage. The study concludes that continuous innovation and ecosystem expansion are vital for operational success. Strategic recommendations highlight the necessity of investing in diverse digital services, leveraging network effects, and balancing multi-sided market incentives to sustain long-term growth in emerging economies.
