Silk Fabric Dyeing with Natural Dye from Coconut Husk

Abstract


Natural dye extracted from coconut husk (Cocosnucifera L.) was applied to a silk fabric by an exhaustion dyeing process. UV–VIS spectrophotometry was performed on the extracts. The dyeing characteristics of the dyed silk were investigated in terms of the CIELAB (L*, a* and b*) and K/S values with regard to dye concentration, dyeing temperature and dyeing time. Color fastness to washing was
determined and satisfactory fastness was obtained.
